The information about the intention of the European Commission to finance development of media literacy in Russia was published on the website of Russian international news channel RT on April 15, 2020. It is reported that EC is going to provide EUR 3.200.000 within the framework of the grant for the promotion and protection the freedom of expression in Russia and the development of media literacy.
The news about allocation of funds within the framework of the grant contains information that the initiative to increase the level of media literacy in Russia is of particular relevance in a context of pandemic. The youth is a target audience.
The information published on the RT website does not contain links to the official text of the EC’s grant. In order to check the data I found the official website of the European Commission . Then I made a search “media literacy Russia” in the search string. The first search result was “New Call for Proposal for Russia in the framework of the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR)” , this text is a brief description of the grant. The text was published on April 10, 2020. There is a confirmation of the intention to provide funding to the initiative with the overall budget of EUR 3.200.000in the framework of the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR). The details on the importance of the initiative during the pandemic and recommendations to carry out activities in Russian regions outside Moscow and St. Petersburg are contained in the documents.
